The US Forest Service

A forest management program was implemented by the hardworking men and women of the U.S. Forest Service to help reduce the likelihood of total forest destruction in the event of a fire. Thanks to targeted thinning, the forest near Fairplay, CO, survived a 2017 fire and is now flourishing more than ever.

Today, the forest continues to grow, thrive, and provide an excellent habitat for a wide range of wildlife species, including Colorado's elk and foxes. The U.S. Forest Service has ensured its beautiful, natural environment still brings a breath of fresh air and picturesque views for outdoor enthusiasts.
